The Neighborhood

Flushing, Queens

Located in the northeastern part of New York City, Flushing is a neighborhood with a large subway station, several police stations, banks, and many other essential resources within a 5-minute walking distance. Flushing is often referred to as the "Asian Manhattan" -- a perfect area to introduce international Asian students to the cross-cultural essentials within the American lifestyle.

Flushing is about a 35-minute subway ride from Manhattan; the area is also a transit hub with many commuting options - LIRR, NYC Subway, shuttles to other Chinatowns, private car services, shuttles to nearby states, and more.

Culturally diverse

Flushing is culturally diverse with a high Chinese immigrant population. The significant Asian population may seem to dilute the cultural adjustment experience, but it also helps exchange visitors beat homesickness and adapt to the new environment.

Affordable eateries

The food scene is so good in Flushing. Not only it has all different options in one spot, many are affordable and taste great -- $25 for a dinner with soup and three dish choices for 2-3 people, $5 for a single dinner box with three dishes and soup, to $2 for few dumplings -- let's check it out.

Highly accessible

The neighborhood has a high concentration of shops, banks, doctors' offices, pharmacies, urgent care clinics, with many open 7 days a week. It is also nearby the Flushing Hospital and NYHQ.

Flushing also happens to be home to some of the city's best attractions. Don't wait to check it out -- Citi Field, USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (host of the famous US Open), Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens Museum of Art, New York Hall of Science, Queens Zoo, Queens Botanical Garden, and many more.

Housing Guidelines

Rules to follow

To ensure safety and comfort regarding accommodation, here are some of the guidelines.

Personal liability

Students are financially liable for any damages or expenses they cause. Keep your room reasonably clean, or you may be charged for additional cleaning fee by the hotel.

Service scope

We do not charge any commission, and we do not endorse or represent any third parties. Regarding housing, our service scope is limited to offering necessary resources and facilitating group booking and proper communications between the hotel and the students. Any disputes or charges are handled directly between the hotel and students.

Extended booking

Students handle housing arrangements before or after the program. They can stay in another hotel facility.

Second installment

The hotel fee is charged in your second and third installments. Room pairings take place after the second installment is due. As such, the second installment will reflect double room sharing rate multiply by the program duration. After finalizing room pairings, any remaining balance will be settled upon arrival.

Hotel Tax Info

NYC hotel tax is about 20%; the before tax daily rate is about USD 100 which is considerably low in New York City.

Non-refundable discount deal

Our group is entitled to a non-refundable discount deal with some restrictions. The housing fee is nonrefundable in all situations.

The hotel reserves the right to refuse hospitality to the guest who break any of its rules. It also has capacity limit of rooms and may adjusts the rate in necessary situations.

In case of emergency situations, such as disputes, you will be asked to move to another nearby facility at your own expense.

Room sharing

Personal belongings and valuables

The hotel bears no responsibility for any damage or loss of your personal belongings. Lock up your valuables inside your luggage and keep your money in the bank.

Linens are changed weekly and housekeeping is given daily. If the floor is cluttered or the bed has noticeable items on top of it, the housekeepers may skip cleaning the room or changing the bed. If you may have potential allergy situations, bring and use your own beddings.

Mail orders

If you have placed a mail order, keep track of it and pick it up immediately after the mail is delivered. Do not pick up mail or orders for another person. Stop ordering items at least one week before your checkout date.

Laundry services

Do not wash clothes or hang wet clothes inside your room. The nearest laundromat (Super C) is located on 41st Rd. There is another one opened through midnight located on Union Street. There are both self-wash or drop-off options. Students may also combine loads and use the pick-up and drop-off service (minimum of 6 pounds is required).

SEVIS must have your most updated US address, including your room number, stored in the system. If you have changed your room, report to us within 48 hours.
